Microblading Facts vs. Myths

August 23, 2018 by fluhmeglambar

Microblading has taken Hollywood by storm. The list of celebrities gushing about how microblading has improved their confidence keeps growing.

Despite the self-confidence boost that the procedure has given many, some are still skeptical about microblading.

It is, after all, a form of semi permanent tattoo. A tattoo that you wear on your face, nonetheless.

Thanks to this skepticism, a lot of myths about microblading have formed.

We’re here to lay out what microblading is and dispel the microblading facts from the myths.

What Is Microblading?

Microblading is a type of tattooing.

During the microblading process, the technician makes thin strokes to create lines that look like little hairs. The technician creates these lines in your eyebrows, which results in fuller, more natural-looking eyebrows.

Microblading replaces the eyebrow tattooing of days long past.

Old eyebrow tattooing entailed filling in your eyebrows with a flat color. The result was eyebrows that looked like they were drawn on with a Sharpie pen.

In contrast, microblading uses multiple thin lines to create the illusion of having more hair follicles in the eyebrows.

In fact, many people can’t tell the difference between natural eyebrows and microbladed eyebrows.

Part of the reason why microblading is so effective lies not just in the width but in the depth of the strokes.

Traditional eyebrow tattoos are more or less carved into the skin. Microbladed strokes lightly scratch the skin.

Microblading Myths Versus Microblading Facts

Since microblading first caught fire, a myriad of myths about it has caught fire as well.

Let’s disprove those myths with microblading facts below.

Myth #1: Microblading Is Painful

Tattooing is often painful for those who undergo it.

Traditional tattooing breaks the skin and inserts ink below the top layer. That way, when the skin heals, it will cover the ink and keep it in place.

Fact: It Depends On Your Pain Threshold

Since microblading is a type of tattooing, some pain has been associated with it.

Whether or not you find it painful depends on your pain threshold. Some who have undergone threading and waxing find microblading just a bit less comfortable than threading.

Prior to microblading, the technician rubs a cream on your skin. This cream helps numb some of the procedure’s pain.

Individuals undergoing microblading who have a low threshold for pain have been known to bring distractions with them.

Squeezing a stress ball or listening to music on a personal headset helps them keep their focus elsewhere. Additionally, listening to music can mask the scraping of the blade against your skin.

But overall, many microbladed individuals shy away from the word “painful.”

For them, the choice word when describing the procedure is “uncomfortable.”

Myth #2: Microblading Is Permanent

As we all know, tattooing is permanent.

That’s why our parents and grandparents are so alarmed when we talk about getting a tattoo. “Who wants something permanently drawn on their body?” they say.

Fact: Microblading Is Not Permanent

Microblading is not like traditional tattooing. It does not cut the skin deeply enough to last forever.

In fact, one of the most solid microblading facts is how long the procedure lasts.

Microblading lasts only 18 months at the longest before the color starts to fade. Then it’s time to have your eyebrows retouched.

Myth #3: Microblading Entails The Use of Blades and Scalpels

Some use Google to search for pictures of microblading results and tools.

When they see the tool, they automatically assume it’s a blade or scalpel. Then, frightened, they click away without looking further into the tool.

Fact: Microblading Entails The Use of Needles

It’s easy to understand why people assume the microblading tool is a blade or scalpel. It is a handheld object with a handle and a head shaped much like that of a scalpel.

But take a closer look. The “blade” is actually a series of needles. These needles are what the technicians uses to make the strokes.

There’s more to this microblading fact that makes the myth look crazier. Scalpels and blades are only approved for surgical use.

Microblading is not surgery by any definition of the word, so it’s illegal to use blades and scalpels during the procedure.

Myth #4: Microblading Is The Only Way To Go For Improving Your Eyebrows

Microblading is semi-permanent and only requires touch-ups every now and then.

For that reason, some microblading enthusiasts state it’s the best way to maintain your eyebrows.

Fact: Microblading Is The Way To Go For Some People

Microblading is a great way to obtain beautiful eyebrows…for some people.

Others don’t like the idea of enduring possible pain and getting scratched with needles just to improve their eyebrows.

For those people, there are alternative routes to obtaining beautiful eyebrows. Such routes include waxing, threading, and plucking their eyebrows to sculpt them the way they want.

One way isn’t “better” than the other. It depends on the individual and what they’re comfortable doing to get the look they want.
